Question 1

What painting and decorating services do you offer in Corby?

Accepted Answer

We undertake interior painting for walls, ceilings, doors, skirting boards, staircases and other trim, along with wallpaper hanging and removal where agreed. Exterior work can include suitable masonry, timber and metal surfaces after proper assessment and preparation. We also carry out common pre-decoration tasks such as filling, sanding, stain-blocking, caulking and minor surface repairs. Every property is different, from a newer home in Priors Hall Park to an older room in the Old Village, so the proposed work is tailored to the surfaces rather than treated as a standard package.

Question 2

How much does a painter and decorator cost in Corby?

Accepted Answer

The cost depends on the size of the area, condition of the surfaces, amount of preparation, paint system, access and whether wallpaper or detailed woodwork is involved. A small, well-prepared bedroom will require a different allowance from a staircase with repairs, multiple doors and high-level areas. We assess the job before providing an estimate so the scope is clear rather than based on guesswork. You will be able to see what is included and discuss options that may affect the budget, such as premium finishes or additional repair work.

Question 3

How far ahead should I book a decorator in Corby?

Accepted Answer

Booking ahead is helpful if you need work completed before moving in, welcoming guests, listing a property or coordinating with other trades. Lead times can vary with the size of the project, travel requirements and the time needed for materials or preparation. Smaller jobs may sometimes be accommodated sooner, while multi-room or exterior work benefits from more planning. Contacting us as soon as you have an approximate date allows us to discuss realistic options and build a schedule that works around your plans.

Question 4

What should I expect before decorating work starts?

Accepted Answer

Before starting, we agree the areas to be decorated, colours or wallpaper, access arrangements, preparation requirements and any items you would like protected or moved. It helps to remove fragile ornaments, personal items and loose wall décor where possible, although we can discuss practical help with heavier furniture. We protect floors, furnishings and fixed elements in the working zone before preparation begins. You will also know the intended order of rooms, which is useful if you need to keep parts of the property in use.

Question 5

How do you check the quality of the finished work?

Accepted Answer

Quality is built into the preparation and checked again at the end, rather than judged only after the final coat. We look for even coverage, clean cut lines, sound repairs, consistent sheen and missed details around switches, frames and edges. Once the area is tidy, we invite you to inspect the work with us in ordinary lighting and raise any questions. If a touch-up is appropriate as part of the agreed finish, it is addressed before handover. Clear expectations at the estimate stage help ensure the completed work matches the agreed scope.

Question 6

Do walls need mist coating or priming before painting?

Accepted Answer

New plaster, bare filler, stained areas, exposed timber and previously unstable coatings can all need a primer or sealer before top coats are applied. A mist coat is commonly used on properly dry new plaster, but the right product and dilution depend on the paint system being used. Skipping this stage can lead to uneven suction, poor adhesion or flashing, where patches show through at a different sheen. We inspect the substrate first and recommend the preparation system that fits it, particularly where repairs or colour changes are involved.

Question 7

Do you cover areas outside Corby?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our service area includes Kettering, Wellingborough, Market Harborough, Northampton, Oundle, Desborough, Rothwell, Thrapston, Daventry, Towcester, Milton Keynes, Rushden, Roade and Blisworth. Travel time, parking, access and the scale of the project are considered when arranging a visit, especially for locations further from George Street. We are happy to discuss whether your address falls within our working area. A clear conversation at the outset helps us plan the appointment and estimate accurately.

Question 8

Should I choose wallpaper or paint for a feature wall?

Accepted Answer

The best choice depends on the room, the wall condition, the amount of natural light and the effect you want to create. Paint can give a clean, adaptable feature wall and is often easier to alter later, while wallpaper adds pattern, texture and visual depth. For a busy hallway or a wall with uneven surfaces, the preparation and product choice become especially important. We can talk through how a sample will work with your existing furnishings and advise on the surface preparation needed for a neat result.
